I was given the opportunity to review an e-book called Sparkly Me by Ally Nathaniel. I received the e-book version free from the author in exchange for a spot on my blog and to share my honest opinion of the book.
Let me start by saying this is a short picture book perfect for very young children. It’s likely to appeal mostly to little girls as the character is a young girl who talks about sparkly things.
Initially, I was turned off by the character’s almost materialistic display of how much she loves her sparkly things. She described everywhere she likes sparkly things and where she keeps them. BUT, as I read to the end, the sparkly things became “wrinkled” and the message that was delivered was that it’s okay because her personality is what really shines.
Perhaps the message is a little deep for my 2-year-old to grasp, but I felt better knowing that I had delivered a message that our possessions aren’t what make us “sparkle”. I see this as a perfect book for the young girl who loves very girlie things and perhaps plays dress up as a princess.
