How to Easily Ditch Toxic Toothpaste That Can Make You Sick #momsmeet #ad

by Ivy B

The truth about fluoride. And how to easily ditch toxic toothpaste for fluoride free himalaya botanique complete care toothpaste. This is the perfect alternative to your conventional toothpaste.

Look, I know I’m not eating my toothpaste, but apparently, my body considers fluoride a major toxin.  I also don’t detox well naturally thanks to a MTHFR gene defect, so I figured I needed to eliminate fluoride from my repertoire.  So, I began to search for a new and unconventional toothpaste.

It’s been nearly 4 years since I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Disease.  Since then, I’ve been through a wide range of tests and changed my lifestyle dramatically.  To tell you that my life had been turned upside down may still be an understatement.

With those tests I mentioned, I took a food and chemical sensitivity test.  I found out so much about the foods and substances I was ingesting.  Part of the drastic changes came in learning to cook and eat foods unlike many of those I’d grown up with.  The other part, though, came with the shocking discovery that I was highly intolerant of fluoride.

“Flouride?!” you ask.

If you’re like me, you probably didn’t know fluoride isn’t as safe and wonderful as you’ve been lead to believe.  Believe me when I say that I’d still be clueless if I hadn’t begun struggling with my health.  And in some ways, I wish I’d never taken this test.  Ignorance was bliss in a way … but now it feels everything is out to get me.

But what’s the deal with fluoride anyway?

Should you ditch conventional toothpaste? If you're concerned about the fluoride controversy or are afraid of it and other toxic chemicals in your toothpaste thanks to health issues, the answer is yes. I'm testing Himalaya Botanique Complete Care Toothpaste thanks to #MomsMeet #ad

Had I never run into these health issues and that one test, I’d never have thought to question the use of fluoride.  But, alas, here I am!  And studies have shown that fluoride is a chemical neurotoxin capable of some serious damage to our bodies!  If you’re interested in learning more about the fluoride controversy, you can visit this article by Mercola.

Geez, when you think about it, it makes more sense why they make toddler’s toothpaste fluoride-free.  And, I still make my  (almost) 6-year-old daughter use fluoride free toothpaste!  If it’s bad for mom, I’m not taking my chances with the kids.

Anyway, my search for toothpaste I felt comfortable with began and I needed to settle on one under the following conditions.  It needed to:

  • Be Gluten Free

  • Be Fluoride Free

And, I preferred my toothpaste to be free of SLS and Carrageenan because of the controversy about their safety as well.

Mom’s Meet provided me with an opportunity to try 7 varieties of Himalaya Botanique Complete Care Toothpaste.  All 7 varieties offered the freedom from the things I was concerned about.

After having health issues, I began to swap out conventional products for healthier alternatives. Fluoride-free Himalaya Botanique Complete Care Toothpaste is also gluten free. Review #ad #momsmeet

Using toothpaste with herbal properties

When I began my search for a new toothpaste, I had a difficult time finding one that helped me transition easily.  At first, I found gluten and fluoride free varieties, but they’d have carrageenan and/or SLS.  I think I settled on one once with SLS until I found one without.  What I also found in my trials was that most of them weren’t nearly as sweet as your conventional toothpaste.  That took quite a bit of getting used to.

Himalaya Botanique Complete Care Toothpaste, however, seems to fit the bill for anyone transitioning to something more unconventional.  I found that these have Xylitol (which is a tooth-friendly sweetener) and Stevia.  This would have been perfect when I first began my search.  To be honest though, because I’ve been using a brand without the Stevia, I found Himalaya Botanique too sweet for me … as much as I do when I travel and end up using conventional toothpaste.  That’s why I say it’s perfect for someone transitioning.  And, if you don’t want to get used to a less-sweet variety, I feel as though this brand is perfect.

Himalaya has formulated their toothpaste line with a variety of tooth- and gum-friendly herbal cleaners, even in their whitening variety.

What I like about Himalaya Botanique Complete Care Toothpaste

Though it’s extra sweet, in my opinion, I really have enjoyed using Himalaya Botanique.  My teeth feel extremely clean and my breath is pleasantly fresh.

Now, I’m going to apologize for my mug shots here, but I wanted to show you untouched images of me before (and after) I started using the Himalaya Whitening Complete Care Toothpaste.  It seems to me in the couple weeks I’ve been using it, my teeth have had a minor improvement in how white they are.  Is it just me?  (Left is before, Right is after)

When I was a kid, I lived in Alaska, and the town I lived in didn’t add fluoride to the water. So, they made us “swish” once a month with this fluoride rinse (at school). It tasted terrible! We all hated it and would try to dump it in the carpet ? Pretty sure they would not do that now!

I had a charcoal toothpaste from Asia that was a little weird because it was black, not sure if something like that would be okay for you?

When you really start looking at what’s in your products, you might want to switch many of them. Baby steps 🙂

I have hashimotios too and didn’t think about food sensitivities tests. Great advice and product review!

Oh man … I would never have, but when I didn’t find relief with thyroid meds alone, I ended up on a long journey of finding help. Ended up finding a functional medicine doctor who looks for “root cause” vs simply treating a condition. It also meant he’s more thorough and doesn’t treat me as though I’m a mental case when things feel wrong. 😉
