Looking for some fun things to do at home with kids?
Whether it’s summer, a day off from school, or you’re a stay at home mom, it’s inevitable that your kids will moan about being “bored.”
I get it. It doesn’t seem to matter if they have a thousand toys, sometimes those kiddos get into a funk and look to you to help them stay busy or active.
Outdoor things to do at home with kids
Fresh air, sunshine, and physical activity is really important for our bodies.
Make sure to offer plenty of outdoor activities for your children to do throughout the week.
Check out these ideas:
- Free play outside
- Take a walk around the neighborhood
- Ride bikes around the neighborhood
- Have a scavenger hunt in the backyard
- Have a picnic in the yard

Inside things to do at home with kids
- Play board games
- Build blanket or box forts
- Read books – don’t have a large enough personal library? Check out these ideas:
- Your public library may offer ebooks through the Libby app.
- Audible has books for kids.
- Do some crafts
- Learn new skills like crafting, photography, paper airplane making and more (Bluprint is offering FREE classes until April 16th)

Educational things to do at home with kids
- Online Preschool (We currently use MissHumblebee.com which has been provided as a free resource from our library. ABCmouse has also been used in this house).
3. Do educational worksheets and activities – we’re using School Zone Preschool kit that is no longer in print.
4. Learn a new language (We use Transparent.com which is provided as a free resource from our library).
5. Use education.com for free printables and lesson plans for Preschool through 5th grade. The free version limits how many printables you can print for the month though an upgrade often is only $5/month for an annual plan when they run sales (which happens often).
Virtual Outings
- Watch the Sea Lions at the Georgia Aquarium (scroll down to view other aquarium habitats)
- Take an online tour of the Louvre
- Take a virtual tour of the Great Wall of China!
- Check out live cams at the San Diego zoo
- Take an interactive virtual tour at The British Museum
- Go on a mobile tour of Space Center Houston with their app
- Check out the Panda Cam at the Atlanta Zoo
- Watch the live cams from the Monterey Bay Aquarium
- Visit the Eiffel Tower, virtually
